![]() ![]() Hopefully I can keep the momentum going though.Īnyways though, before we begin the adventure, lets meet our iconics for this adventure. Of course this is going to be a bit slower than other lets reads since I actually have to wait for the new parts to come out. Before, I've bought older adventure paths all on one go, but I feel like this one is good enough I can get it as it comes out. So why am I lets reading this one? Because this is the very first adventure path I am buying as it comes out. Not Paizo's first foray into lovecraftian horror or even horror in general (the Original Horror adventure Path, Carrion crown, had an adventure devoted to the lovecraft mythos, and the adventure Carrion Hill was basically the Paizo recreation of the Dunwich Horror), but this is the first full adventure path with a Lovecraftian bent, released alongside both the Horror Adventures supplement and the Occult Adventures book, it seems like the time is right for this creepy crazy adventure. Which leads us to where we are now: The Strange Aeons adventure path. This would be a trend that would continue, with more Lovecraft mythos monsters being introduced both in subsequent bestiaries but other adventures, culminating with the big man himself Cthulhu getting stats in Bestiary 4. In their very first bestiary, one of the few monsters that isn't just an update of the DnD SRD to the new rules is their version of the Shoggoth, and the Skum was updated to make them more similar to the Deep ones (And they remained a deep one expie until the most recent bestiary, when Paizo just went fuck it and brought in the deep ones proper). Pathfinder has always had a pretty close relationship with Lovecraft. So its no surprised that the Cthulhu mythos has been very influential on RPG's: Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu, Early DnD, World of Warcraft and hearthstone, and of course Pathfinder. Don't believe me, look up the Lovecraft commonplace book, which was basically a book filled with over 200 short story ideas he never actually made. The guy was brimming with ideas for horrible monsters and scary stories. Seriously though Lovecraft is probably one of my favorite horror writers, having basically created the cosmic horror subgenre. Ah HP Lovecraft, your horror writing was beyond reproach and your personal beliefs were beyond repugnant. ![]()
